Secrets to Registering and Attesting for Meaningful Use

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Did you know that you can register, start attesting and then save and continue later on the CMS attestation site? Well, you do now. It is always a good idea to take your time when filling out critical forms and in this case, it involves your provider’s incentive bonus. You can register here and fill out the information you have gathered so far, save and continue more later: https://ehrincentives.cms.gov/hitech/login.action. Keep in mind that you will need numerators and denominators in order to completely attest, so I recommend having those numbers handy or at least access to a dashboard or reporting [...]

Your Policies and Procedures Are Incomplete If They Don’t Include a Security Risk Management Process

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Patient privacy and confidentiality of medical records is protected by the department of Health & Human Services through the HIPAA Security Rule. And, if your practice is using Electronic Health Record technology (EHR) and/or attesting to Meaningful Use, well-documented Policies and Procedures are at the heart of the HIPAA Security Rule Administrative Guidelines. The very first Administrative Standard refers to the prevention, detection, containment and correction of any security violations. Stage 2 Deadline Delay Benefits Meaningful Use Early Adopters

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Last month the Health & Human Services Department (HHS) announced that they were delaying the deadline for Meaningful Use Stage 2 to 2014 for all providers who attested to Meaningful Use Stage 1 in 2011. The decision was made, in part, to encourage more participation in the meaningful use program. The biggest impact of the delayed deadline is to give early adopters a more reasonable timeline for implementing important Stage 2 functionality in their EHR technology. Since final Stage 2 criteria aren’t set to be released until June of 2012, this decision will give providers ample time to implement new [...]

February 29, 2012 is Last Day to Submit Meaningful Use Data for Stage 1

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

This year’s Meaningful Use Stage 1 attestation ends on December 31, 2011 for physicians and other medical professionals (September 30, 2011 for hospitals).  However, you have 60 days after this deadline to submit data attesting to CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) that you’ve met the meaningful use criteria for 90 consecutive days in 2011.  This means, you actually have until February 29, 2012 (2012 is a Leap Year) to submit your documentation of attestation for 2011. Keep in mind that when completing your attestation on the CMS site, you can start the questionnaire, save work-in-progress and go back [...]
